Machine Installation Checklist
Potential sites should be:
- free from strong odors such as solvents and aerosol propellants
- free from excessive dust
- free from undue humidity
- will allow of ease of maintenance
- separated from toilet areas by a ventilated lobby
- close to a potable hot and cold water supply and sink (not in a toilet facility)
- clear of fire escape route
When installed provision should be made for:
- access for refilling
- access to water and electrical isolation controls
- access for washing the floor surface and/or machine surrounds
- ventilation for machines fitted in banks
Most water problems arise in the building's distribution system. The system should be:
- without long runs of pipe with low or intermittent flows
- without dead legs
- without any pipes passing through areas above 25°C such as roof spaces heated by sun or running close to hot water pipes
- without any water softening process that delivers non-potable water
- at a pressure within the machine's specified pressure operating range
Other considerations should be that:
- if the water supply is from a tank, the tank should be fed from a potable supply and should be designed for storage of potable water
- unless the tank is being used because of the height of the building (6 storey’s or more) a direct supply from a rising main is desirable
- if the only available supply is at the end of a long pipe run of more than 60 feet with no other demands on that pipe, provision should either be made to connect other water using equipment downstream of the vending or dispensing machine, or the supply from the rising main should be re-routed to reduce the length of spur feeding the machine
- the pressure on the location is always going to be adequate for the machine
- the site management should be aware of their responsibilities to provide an adequate supply of potable water to a machine
